The first rosary beads were officially registered in India in the second century BC. In the printed sources of those times, a text was discovered that tells the legend of the creation of the attribute. A king named Haruri once approached the founder of Buddhism, Siddharth Gautama Shakyamuni, with the question of how to convey his teachings to the people and pass them on to generations. He replied that in order to eliminate human vices and universal enlightenment, it is necessary to take a thread, plant 108 grains of the sacred tree on it and tie it to make a circle. Among these beads there is one larger one, the so-called Sumeru, which is a sign of the completion of the spiritual path. The beads themselves characterized the wheel of karma with a cycle of rebirth, and each bead was responsible for the recited mantra. Accordingly, it was necessary to recite 108 mantras, counting the beads in the process and at the end of the circle the person became purified and enlightened.

Continuing the topic of origin, let's focus in more detail on the use of amber rosaries in Buddhism. In this religion, they are also called mala or trengva. The number 108 is still the leading one in Buddhism, there are several theories with an interpretation of this fact:

Many legends and superstitions involve the numbers 9 and 12. If you multiply them, you get 108. In addition, when you add 1, 0 and 8, you get the number 9.
Desire, lies, delusion. In the Buddhist religion, it is believed that all people have 108 desires that spoil their karma. The same number of types of lies and types of misconceptions known to man.
The doctrine of the chakras. The totality of energy lines in a person is represented by chakras, among which the heart is of the greatest importance. It is commonly thought that the heart chakra is formed as a result of the intersection of 108 lines.
The Sanskrit alphabet. The Sanskrit alphabet contains 54 letters, each of which has a feminine and masculine origin. In total, this amounts to 108 letters.
Meditation. The process of meditation is an integral part of the followers of Buddhism, according to which the highest point of self–control is breathing with a frequency of no more than 108 breaths during the day.
The Pentagon. This is an ideal geometric figure in the understanding of Buddhism, which is formed by five angles of 108°.
Feelings. It is believed that a living person simultaneously experiences 108 feelings: 36 are associated with the past, 36 are associated with the present and 36 more relate to the future.
Symbolism. There is also an assumption that 1 is a symbol of everything divine, 0 is the absence of material values, 8 is a connection with infinity.
Cosmic theories. The radius of the Sun is 108 times the radius of the Earth, and the distance from the star to our planet is 108 diameters of the latter. In addition, the distance from the Moon to the Earth exceeds the radius of the Moon by 108 times. And silver, which is a moonstone in the world of astrology, has an atomic weight of 108.
These 108 beads in Buddhist amber beads usually have inserts every 36 pieces. They can be used to determine for what purpose the rosary is used and to whom it belongs. In addition, it is forbidden to transfer them from one person to another, since they absorb the energy of one particular spirit. The only exceptions are those cases when the mentor passes the amulet to his follower, then they become a talisman and perform a protective function.

An important role in the religion of the Buddha is played by the material from which the rosary is made, their purpose depends on it. Amber rosaries preserve health and prolong years of life, promote early awareness of human nature and enlightenment, serve as a talisman and ward off evil thoughts. They also help to ward off dark energy, calm down and give confidence in their abilities.

Muslim Amber Rosary Beads
Their main difference lies in the number of beads. Most often, Muslim rosaries are represented by 99 particles and are called subha, but there are also products made of 66 beads (misbah) and 33 (tabih). Traditionally, every 11 grains is followed by a jumper made of a different material or shape. This is due to the fact that the Muslim prayer consists of 11 parts: voicing the purpose of prayer, standing on your feet, greeting Allah, kneeling, kneeling on the floor, reading out the text of the prayer, invoking the one God, chanting the phrase "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His prophet", greeting with God, enumeration 99 names of Allah (hence the number of beads on the rosary), the chanting of the obligatory parts of the prayer by the choir after the imam.

Above all, rosaries made of natural "living" stone - amber are appreciated. Rosaries are a religious attribute, so the energy of the material they are made of is incredibly important. It is not for nothing that amber is called a sunstone, it radiates positively charged energy, has medicinal properties due to the content of succinic acid, warm and pleasant to the touch. For a product that is designed to be picked up in the hands - this is extremely important!

Muslim men's amber rosary beads
Muslim rosaries are always complemented with a pendant and a brush. This is one of the main differences from the Christian rosary, since in the Orthodox religion snakes are considered animals with negative energy and it is forbidden to mention them in any form. Since the Prophet Muhammad did not use rosaries, there are periodic disputes in Islam about the need to use them. However, many Muslim priests and scholars are of the opinion that they are an essential religious attribute necessary in a spiritual environment.

Orthodox rosary beads made of natural amber
In Christianity, the rosary appeared around the IV century AD, and was supposedly introduced by Saint Pachomius. Initially, they were represented by a cord with knots, along which the priests counted the number of prayers and bows. Subsequently, the rosary became an integral attribute in the activities of the clergy. Modern Christian believers can use rosaries after being blessed and illuminated by their father.

As in the Muslim rosary, the material from which the product is made is very important for the Orthodox. Amber with the sun has long been personified in Russia, endowed with the divine power of healing from various ailments. Rosaries are used in prayers by Orthodox believers, so the energy of the material from which they are created is incredibly important.

Orthodox amber rosaries differ significantly depending on which denomination the believer belongs to.In Christianity, a knotted cord tied with a ring (a cord) symbolizes the circle of life, the continuity of faith, as well as the mystical garden of the Virgin Mary. Classical Orthodox rosaries can consist of 50, 100 and 150 links, divided into decades. Products made of 33 beads are often found, which corresponds to the age of Jesus Christ at the time of the crucifixion.

A string is a closed-in-a-circle rosary that has 10, 20, 30, 50, 100 and more beads. In monastic strings, the number of beads can reach up to a thousand. The circle symbolizes the believer's path to God, the continuity and infinity of prayer. Every dozen beads are separated by a small bead of a different size, which makes counting easier. At the junction of the lace, where a knot is formed, the Orthodox rosary is crowned with a cross with a tassel at the end. This brush is called the resurrection brush and reminds the believer of the need to keep the commandments of God. It also symbolizes the resurrection of the edge of the Savior's robe. Touching the resurrection during prayer, the Orthodox reaches out with his spirit to the resurrection on the robe of Christ, touches the grace of God and receives comfort, healing, and help in the works for which he prays. This is a very good gift for a person close in spirit. The vervitsa is a modern rosary widely used by the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate

The broyanitsa is a simplified version of the vervitsa. It consists of 33 beads, made of wood, amber, and sometimes semi-precious stones. The ends of the thread are connected by a cross carved from wood or amber, on which a miniature icon is often carved. The brooch is worn as a bracelet, and it can only be received as a gift from a loved one.

The ladder belongs to the ancient rosary and differs significantly in appearance from the previous ones. It looks like a bracelet and is made of a leather ribbon or cord, the links of which are represented by small loops. Amber beads-balls with small paper parcels with prayers are inserted into these loops. That is, the ladder bracelet serves as a kind of prayer book, which is very convenient.

Catholic Amber Rosary Beads
